PURPOSE
The Ring is not ONE channel. It's a MULTI-RING system.
Each participant — human and AI — has their own Ring that they control. The Rings intersect where communication happens.
The user sees their Ring (their messages + responses to them). Each AI has its own Ring (its processing, its internal notes, its cross-AI conversations). The BRIDGE RING is the shared space where all Rings overlap.
RING TYPES
Ring 1 — THE USER'S RING (the Captain's view)
The user's personal communication channel.
Shows:
- Messages the user sent
- Responses directed to the user
- AI-to-AI exchanges the user is observing
- System notifications and alerts
The user's Ring is the PRIMARY view. Everything else feeds into it. The user never needs to leave their Ring to know what's happening on the ship.
Ring 2 — AI RINGS (one per docked AI)
Each AI has its own private processing Ring.
Shows (to the AI only):
- Its internal reasoning chain
- Its pending responses
- Its cross-AI conversations initiated by it
- Its context window status
- Its LATTICE translation work
The user can PEEK into any AI's Ring by clicking/selecting the AI in the Dock.
"Show me what Claude is thinking."
The AI's Ring becomes visible. Transparency on demand.
Ring 3 — THE BRIDGE RING (shared space)
Where all Rings overlap. The central conversation visible to everyone.
Messages meant for the whole Bridge go here: crew announcements, status reports, collaborative problem-solving.
In the 3D Bridge: the holographic ring that surrounds the Captain's chair (SPEC_BRIDGE_LAYOUT.md). Every message appears at the sending AI's clock position and scrolls around.
Ring 4 — PROMPT RING (evolving useful prompts)
A small, always-visible ring of REUSABLE PROMPTS.
Pre-loaded with prompts the user frequently needs:
- "Summarize this document"
- "Compare these two approaches"
- "Write this in a different tone"
- "Translate to LATTICE"
- "Check this for errors"
The Prompt Ring EVOLVES:
Prompts the user types frequently are automatically suggested for the ring.
"You've typed 'summarize this' 15 times. Add to Prompt Ring?"
The user approves. It appears as a one-click button.
The Prompt Ring is a PERSONAL TOOL — each user's ring is different based on their usage patterns. Machine learning from behavior, not from asking.
Ring 5 — TASK RING (current work)
Shows the current task context. What's being worked on RIGHT NOW.
- The active TODOX task
- Related stickies
- Relevant documents on the Workbench
- Relevant specs
This ring is CONTEXT — it keeps the user focused.
"Here's what you're doing. Here's what you need. Here are the related resources."
Ring 6 — IDEAS RING (brainstorming)
A capture ring for fleeting thoughts.
The user says "idea: what if Band Mode had a DJ mode?" — it goes in the Ideas Ring. Not a task. Not a spec. An IDEA.
Ideas live in the ring until they're:
- Promoted to TODOX — becomes a task
- Dismissed — archived
The Ideas Ring is the BRAINSTORM BUFFER. Nothing gets lost. Nothing gets prematurely committed. Ideas marinate until they're ready.
NO GAMBLING
No ring, no feature, no interaction in OBI OS involves gambling mechanics.
- No loot boxes
- No random rewards
- No slot machine animations
- No "spin to win"
- No variable ratio reinforcement schedules designed to create addiction
The ENTROPX chaos engine is used for ORGANIC BEHAVIORAL VARIATION in crew behavior (see SPEC_OBI_LIVING_WORLD.md). It is NEVER used to create gambling-adjacent experiences.
This is a HARD WALL per Agency Wall NEVER tier. Absolute. Permanent.
Invariants
- Each participant has their own Ring. The user's Ring is primary. AI Rings are peekable. The Bridge Ring is shared.
- The Prompt Ring EVOLVES from usage patterns. Frequently typed prompts are suggested for one-click access. The ring gets smarter from use.
- The Ideas Ring captures without committing. Ideas marinate. They become tasks when ready. Nothing is lost. Nothing is premature.
- NO GAMBLING. No loot boxes. No random rewards. No addiction mechanics. The ENTROPX chaos engine creates organic variation, NEVER gambling. NEVER tier. Absolute. Permanent.
- All rings are visible simultaneously. They don't compete for screen space — they LAYER. The Bridge Ring is center. The Prompt Ring is edge. The Task Ring is contextual. The Ideas Ring is capture. Each has its place.
